Charter Boat
Master Captain George Tarkleson of Matinicus and son Captain Paul Tarkleson offer passenger service from Rockland to Matinicus Island on a regular schedule. You can also book private boats based on availability. Their boat, the Robin R. is a 35 foot Mitchell Cove lobster boat with an extended cabin that takes about 60 minutes from harbor to harbor. In Rockland, the boat loads and unloads at Journey’s End Marina.
The Charter Boat has limited capacity so be sure to book your boat trip at the same time as making your lodging reservations

State Ferry
The Maine State Ferry departs from Rockland and offers four trips a month during peak season. The ferry takes just over 2 hours, but is the most reliable form of transportation to Matinicus. Only major storms will cancel ferry services. Note: you must be able to carry all your belongings onto the ferry in one trip, or find someone boarding with a car who can help carry your load!
